The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organised a two-day Student Induction Programme 2022–23 on November 1 and 2 to welcome the newcomers from across the country. Over 800 first year students who got admissions to various postgraduate programmes in sciences, humanities and social sciences disciplines offered at the university attended this Induction Programme.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the newly admitted students and introduced them to various teaching-learning and research facilities at the university. He highlighted that CUPB is the frontrunner among the new central universities established after 2009 and has been ranked among the top 100 universities list in NIRF Rankings four times consecutively in the last four years, with 81st Rankings in NIRF 2022.
He stated that the university envisions to transform the young minds to serve the humanity through skills and innovation driven teaching and research; values and community outreach. The university administration is committed to provide student-centric education in a high-tech teaching and learning environment for the holistic personality development of students and enabling them to acquire necessary skills. Prof. Tiwari talked about the six levels of learning in Bloom’s Taxonomy and encouraged freshmen to reach the highest level of learning by adopting life-long learner approach. He advised the students to be focused and disciplined in order to reach their chosen destination.
On the first day of this induction programme, Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean In charge Academics, shared detailed information about the delivery of academic programmes and the provision of different academic and non-academic services. Prof. B.P. Garg, Controller of Examinations and Registrar (O) briefed about the Feedback & Evaluation and Examination & Result mechanism of the university. Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director, IQAC, talked about the counselling and mentoring system and the training and placement support provided by CUPB.
On the second day, Prof. V.K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare, spoke about the hostel, mess and canteen facilities, and talked about Anti Ragging Policy. During this programme, students were also introduced to the extracurricular activities of the university and the process for using the facilities available at University Library, Computer Centre, Central Instrumentation Laboratory and sports facilities.
After the induction programme, departmental-level mentoring and peer interaction sessions were held to help newcomers quickly adapt to the new academic environment and familiarise themselves with different aspects of academic and social life on campus.
